Reviews for the Asus ROG Strix G18 G815LW

100% ASUS ROG Strix G18 Ultimate Review: The No-Limits Gaming Laptop
Source: Android Authority English
I think with a question like this, you really have to consider what it is you want out of a laptop. Even if you want a gaming laptop, you might want something more portable than this model. And you also have to consider the cost. The ROG Strix G18 comes in at a whopping $3,499.99. That is a lot for a laptop, even a gaming laptop like this one that delivers top-tier performance. Still, if you’re not turned off by the cost or the size and weight, then it’s hard not to recommend this thing. When comparing it to something like the Lenovo Legion Pro 7i, for example, it comes in at about the same price. However, it has the same GPU, the same CPU, identical amounts of storage and RAM, and by all accounts comes out with better scores in every test we ran, save for a couple by a few points. It doesn’t have an OLED display, and it weighs about two more pounds. That being said, it’s the better pick, in my opinion.

90% The Asus ROG Strix G18 is proof that paying more for an RTX 5090 is a waste of money
Source: Laptop Mag English
The Asus ROG Strix G18 delivers stellar performance across the board, even outpacing top-tier RTX 5090 laptops. The roomy 18-inch display and crisp audio quality make for a truly immersive gaming experience that's tough to beat at this price. Why pay $1,000 more for an RTX 5090 laptop when the Strix G18 offers competitive performance for less? While I had a great time gaming on the Strix G18, it may not be for everyone. If you need something portable, this is not the best option. The 18-inch display is suitable for gaming and watching movies, but the G18 is too large to fit in most laptop bags and is relatively heavy, weighing over 7 pounds. A smaller 16, 15, or even 14-inch gaming laptop would be a much better fit if portability is a concern for you. However, if you want a laptop that can effectively replace your desktop PC, the Strix G18 could be the perfect fit. NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 Laptop: A fast graphics card from the Blackwell family for laptops that is based on the GB203 chip and uses 8,192 shaders and 16 GB GDDR7 graphics memory (256-bit graphics bus).

These graphics cards are able to play the latest and most demanding games in high resolutions and full detail settings with enabled Anti-Aliasing.

» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Graphics Cards and the corresponding Benchmark List.

Ultra 9 275HX: Mobile high-end CPU for gaming notebooks based on the Arrow Lake architecture. Offers 24 cores consisting of 8 fast performance cores with up to 5.4 GHz and 16 smaller efficiency cores with up to 4.6 GHz clock speed. The CPU can access 40 MB L2 cache and 36 MB L3 cache and is specified with a TDP of 55 watts. The SoC integrates a small dedicated NPU called AI Boost with 13 TOPS (Int8) and optionally supports vPro Essentials.» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Processsors.

18.00": This display size is a standard format for desktop replacements (DTR). The DTR laptops are heavier to carry, need more power, but texts are easy to read and high resolutions are no problem. DTR are mainly intended for stationary desk use, where weight and energy hunger don't matter. In return, you enjoy the advantages of high resolutions (more details, better legibility).» To find out how fine a display is, see our DPI List.

3.2 kg:

A laptop with this weight is comparatively heavy and less designed for mobility than for use at the desk. Therefore, the devices tend to shine less with battery life than with a large screen and higher performance.

Asus: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. is a major Taiwanese computer hardware manufacturer based in Taipei, founded in 1989. Under the ROG (Republic of Gamers) brand name, ASUS manufactures gaming laptops known by gamers for their powerful specifications, dedicated graphics cards, high refresh rate displays and advanced cooling systems.

Beyond gaming, a wide range of notebooks are offered for different needs and budgets, from ultra-slim and lightweight ultrabooks to versatile 2-in-1 convertibles and budget-friendly options. In 2023, Asus had a 7% global market share of the PC market.

Customer satisfaction with ASUS notebooks concerns performance, the features, and the good price-performance ratio of ASUS notebooks. However, as with any brand, there are occasional reports of problems such as overheating, driver compatibility, or build quality issues.

95%: This rating is indeed excellent. There are not many models that are rated better. This can definitely be seen as a purchase recommendation.
