AYANEO KUN: Company confirms new details about gaming handheld and dGPU removal
AYANEO has now provided more details about the KUN, its largest gaming handheld to date and a competitor to the ONEXPLAYER 2 series. It is worth noting that the KUN will not necessarily be much more powerful than other gaming handhelds, including AYANEO's AIR 1S, GEEK 1S or 2S. Previously, the company stated that it would offer the KUN with an AMD Ryzen 7000 APU and a discrete GPU (dGPU). However, it turns out that only the former has made its way into retail units.
Specifically, AYANEO will sell the KUN with the Ryzen 7 7840U, a popular APU among current-generation gaming handhelds. The company will pair the Ryzen 7 7840U with its 'KUNPeng' cooling system, which features three copper heatpipes and is marketed as delivering 'perhaps the strongest heat dissipation of Windows handhelds to date'. Thus, the AYANEO KUN may be able to maintain the Ryzen 7 7840U and its Radeon 780M iGPU at higher performance levels than other smaller gaming handhelds without thermal throttling setting in.
Additionally, the KUN has an 8.4-inch IPS display that outputs at 2,560 x 1,600 pixels (2.5K) with a 16:10 aspect ratio. In other words, the KUN matches the size and resolution of all ONEXPLAYER 2 series models. AYANEO has integrated a larger battery though, which it promises to have a 75 Wh (19,500 mAh) capacity. Elsewhere, the KUN has dual touchpads, four back buttons, a floating eight-directional d-pad and a Windows Hello-compatible IR camera. Currently, AYANEO states that the KUN will be available 'at the end of August' through Indiegogo. The company has not revealed pricing details yet, but its Indiegogo campaign is already viewable in preview form.
