AMD is now offering Adrenalin Edition 23.12.1 globally, an update that introduces various bug fixes and support for Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, as well as a UI overhaul. The release also sees the introduction of HYPR-RX Eco, a software package that AMD claims can reduce power consumption by over two-thirds in some cases.

AMD has published a new version of its 'AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition', which has reached version 23.12.1. Rolling out today, Adrenalin Edition 23.12.1 is compatible with all recent AMD Radeon GPUs and Ryzen or Athlon APUs with Radeon iGPUs. However, AMD still recommends that people install OEM-provided drivers for laptops and all-in-one (AIO) PCs.

As usual, the latest version of Adrenalin Edition adds support for new games, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora in this case, and resolves various bugs:

  • Improvements to high idle power when using select dual monitor display setups with mixed resolutions and high refresh rate displays (such as 1440p @ 120/144Hz + 1080p @ 120/144Hz or 2160p @ 120/144Hz + 1080p @ 120/144Hz) on Radeon RX 7000 series GPUs.
  • Intermittent micro-stuttering may be experienced when running Chromium-based browsers on systems that pair a Radeon RX 7000 series GPU with a secondary display connected to an AMD Ryzen 7000 series processor.
  • Stars may intermittently fail to appear while playing Crysis Remastered.
  • Certain textures may become invisible while playing Final Fantasy X HD Remaster on Radeon RX 7000 series GPUs.
  • Intermittent corruption may be observed on the racetrack while playing EA Sports WRC.
  • Intermittent stutter while playing Overwatch 2 on some AMD Graphics Products, such as the Radeon RX 6900 XT.

Moreover, the company has refreshed the Adrenalin Edition's UI, among other incidental changes. Arguably, the introduction of HYPR-RX Eco is the biggest change with Adrenalin Edition 23.12.1, a version of which AMD announced in August. As we discussed at the time, HYPR-RX essentially combines Radeon Boost, Anti-Lag+, and Radeon Super Resolution (RSR). Purportedly, HYPR-RX Eco goes even further and can reduce power consumption by up to 68% in some cases.

For now, HYPR-RX Eco will remain an RDNA 3 exclusive, limiting its proliferation to the Radeon RX 7000 dGPU and Radeon 7xxm iGPU series. Thus, it could improve battery life across modern gaming handhelds like the ASUS ROG Ally and Lenovo Legion Go, which both rely on AMD Ryzen Z1 silicon. Nonetheless, AMD has not ruled out bringing HYPR-RX ECO support to older platforms. Please see AMD's blog post for more information.
