Deal | AMD Ryzen 7 5800X drops below the US$300 mark at Micro Center
Desktop PC builders based in the US who are hunting for a new processor might want to check out Micro Center, as it is currently selling Zen 3 processors at considerable discounts, with the Ryzen 7 5800X arguably being the pick of the bunch in terms of savings. The site states that the deal is in-store only, but there are 25 stores to choose from across the US. It’s also worth noting that only the Ryzen 5 5600X comes with a cooler (Wraith Stealth).
While the aforementioned 6-core Ryzen 5 5600X is reduced from US$299.99 to US$279.99, there are bigger savings to be enjoyed with the more-powerful Vermeer processors. So the 12-core Ryzen 9 5900X is discounted by US$50 and is now being sold at Micro Center for US$499.99 while the flagship 16-core Ryzen 9 5950X has had US$100 taken off the MSRP and is available for US$699.99. It’s still an expensive processor even at the discounted price, but it can reach a 4.9 GHz boost clock and utilizes 32 processing threads.
In the face of the competitive Alder Lake release from Intel, the 8-core AMD Ryzen 7 5800X has been reduced by US$150 and now costs US$299.99 at this particular retailer. No doubt it’s likely Micro Center simply wants to make its Vermeer stock more appealing to potential buyers who might be mulling over something like an Intel Core i5-12600K purchase. That 10-core, 16-thread part from Team Blue has an MSRP of US$289 and is already looking like it might become a favorite among DIYers thanks to its attractive price-performance ratio.
