AMD has its sights set on the midrange desktop GPU market over the next few months. The company has already started pushing midrange GPUs into the laptop market, and the Radeon RX 5500 appears to be the first of a few new desktop midrange cards. We already know about the Radeon RX 5600 XT, but there may be another card between it and the Radeon RX 5500.
Aptly called the Radeon RX 5500 XT, Videocardz claims that the card will be another Navi 14 GPU. The 5500 XT will apparently operate on a 128-bit memory bandwidth like the regular RX 5500, and will also feature 4 GB of GDDR6 VRAM. However, Videocardz states that AMD will offer the RX 5500 XT in an 8 GB variant too.
Compute Units (CU) count remains unknown, while the website speculates that the 7 nm GPU will have a 53.9 GPixel/s pixel fillrate, along with a 148.3 GTexel/s texture fillrate. The card will apparently be capable of up to 4.8 TFLOPS too, although we are unsure whether Videocardz has plucked these latter speculations out of thin air.
While the RX 5600 XT is not apparently due until January 2020 at the earliest, Videocardz alleges that AMD will release the RX 5500 XT this month. Specifically, the midrange card will be unveiled by the latest of December 15. Pricing remains unknown, but we shall keep you updated when we hear more.
