A new accessory to make the HomePod Mini wireless debuts via crowdfunding
Apple has recently back-tracked on plans to leave the HomePod or HomePod Mini out of compatibility with the new "HiFi" version of its Music service by which lossless tracks can be streamed. This is just as well for Mission Accessories, a company that has designed a new holder for the Mini variant that also integrates a battery pack so as to free this smart speaker from the wall.
The Mission Battery Base also fits the necessary USB type C cable to connect the HomePod Mini to the rest of the accessory. Their combination results in a form-factor reminiscent of some home security cameras. It is then rated to essentially convert the normally wall-bound HomePod Mini into a portable speaker.
It will also apparently keep the Apple accessory secure, even if the Base is carried around upside-down. Its power-pack is described as having a capacity of 2,000mAh, which might keep the HomePod Mini on for up to 9 hours' worth of music-streaming, or for up to 20 hours on standby.
Therefore, the new Mission Accessories product sounds like quite the idea for those who are really attached to their Apple speakers. It is currently available to order through Kickstarter for US$35.
Then again, new leaks hint that a possible next generation for the device in question willl be unveiled at WWDC 2021, which might mean some potential buyers may prefer to move on from the existing Mini variant in any case.
