Apple reputedly planning to refresh the AirPods Max, but not with a second-generation model
The AirPods Max has proven immensely popular so far, going off the rush Apple experienced when pre-orders went live. According to Bloomberg, Apple has 'only recently caught up with demand' for AirPods Max, although it does not disclose why the company struggled until now.
The demand for AirPods Max has not encouraged Apple to develop a follow-up, though. Apparently, Apple is not working on a second-generation model, so do not expect a refreshed model to arrive this year. Arguably, high demand for the current model negates the need to release an improved model, so Apple may be riding that wave until demand drops.
To that end, Bloomberg claims that Apple has discussed launching new colour variations. Presumably, the company would do so to maintain or improve demand, as it has done with the iPhone 12 mini or iPhone 12 and their new purple colours. It is unclear when Apple would release the AirPods Max in new colours; currently, it sells its US$549 headphones in five colours.
