Apple iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Mini signal the onset of spring with a new purple color option, pre-orders begin this Friday
Alongside the new colorful iMacs, a refreshed Apple TV 4K, AirTags, and new M1-powered iPad Pros, Apple also re-introduced the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Mini in a new purple color option. This is besides the already available black, white, blue, green, and Product Red color choices. Apple CEO Tim Cook remarked that the new purple color evokes the spring season.
The choice of a purple color variant is the only noteworthy aspect of the new iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Mini, though it must be noted here that Apple has managed to perfectly color-match the frame color with that of the back panel.
There is no change in the specifications — you get the same A14 Bionic SoC with 5G support, OLED Super Retina XDR display with Ceramic Shield protection, IP68 rating for up to 6 m of water resistance for 30 minutes, and MagSafe accessory support. The camera hardware is the same as before too. The iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max continue to be offered in their original color options.
Pre-orders for the new purple variant begin this Friday with retail availability from April 30. The iPhone 12 Mini starts at US$729 (US$699 with carrier discount) while the iPhone 12 starts at US$829 (US$799 with carrier discount). Customers can further complement their new purple iPhone 12 with a MagSafe leather case or leather sleeve in Deep Violet, a silicone case in Capri Blue, Pistachio, Cantaloupe, or Amethyst variants, or a leather wallet in Arizona.
