Sony unveiled the wildly ambitious Xperia 1 back at MWC 2019 and has recently followed it up with a smaller, relatively more compact Xperia 5. The Japanese company already has its sights on its next flagship release, however, if the company's official servers are anything to go by.
The first reference to such a device just appeared on Sony's firmware distribution server, with a line directly alluding to the "SM8250". For those not in the know, the Snapdragon 855, when it was in development, was referred to as the SM8150. It stands to reason that the SoC in question here is the upcoming Snapdragon 865.
We're not quite sure what the Xperia flagship will be like, or even what it will be called—Sony's naming scheme appears to be mostly off-kilter these days. We expect the device to maintain the 21:9 display seen on the Xperia 1 and 5, though, while introducing better camera hardware and, hopefully, a bigger battery.
