8BitDo FlipPad launches for $29.99, alongside a black version

Just as promised, 8BitDo has announced the FlipPad flip-style gamepad for smartphones. The new controller was first announced at CES 2026, but is now available to pre-order. The official launch also comes with a surprise second color option.
The 8BitDo FlipPad is a USB-C controller that plugs into the USB-C port of a smartphone (Android or iOS), and adds physical controls to the device for a gaming experience akin to that of a vertical handheld. Priced at $29.99, the gamepad has a hinge like that of classic flip phones of the 90s, and 8BitDo says that it is rated for over 6,000 open/close cycles. The USB-C connector, on the other hand, is rated for over 10,000 insertions.
The FlipPad features a retro style D-pad similar to the type on the SN30 Pro controller. And according to 8BitDo, it is clicky, light, and precise just like the ABXY buttons. Unlike its rival, the GameSir Pocket Taco (available on Amazon for $34.99) which is wireless and has its shoulder buttons on the back, the 8BitDo FlipPad has its L1, L2, R1, and R2 buttons on the front.
When 8BitDo first showcased the FlipPad at CES 2026, it was available in an off-white color called G Classic, which 8BitDo has used in the past for other controllers such as the Pro 3 Bluetooth Gamepad. With the official launch of the FlipPad comes a second color called EDC Black Edition. All of the buttons are black, unlike the G Classic version which has burgundy, black, and white buttons.
The 8BitDo FlipPad controller is available to purchase now on the 8BitDo e-shop and will begin to ship on July 30. It is expected to be available at partner stores, too, but the EDC Black Edition will be exclusive to the 8BitDo eShop.
