The 65-inch Sony X90L 4K LED TV has dropped to less than US$1,000 on Amazon. The TV features Full Array Local Dimming, a high contrast ratio, excellent peak brightness, and support for Dolby Atmos/Vision. The TV is also highly rated with an 8.1 rating from RTINGS and a 4.1 star rating on Amazon.

The BRAVIA XR X90L 4K TV occupies the mid-range segment in Sony’s 2023 TV lineup. The TV comes in a range of sizes going from 55 inches all the way up to 98 inches. Thanks to a respectable US$100 discount, the 65-inch Sony X90L price has dropped to only US$998 on Amazon (courtesy of slickdeals). According to camelcamelcamel, the US$998 rate is the lowest price for the Sony X90L to date.

The Sony X90L on sale packs a 65-inch Full Array LED panel with a 4K resolution, a 120 Hz native refresh rate, VRR support, and a Cognitive Processor XR. Per Sony, the XR chip affords the X90L features such as XR Clear image and XR 4k upscaling for denoising/detail resolution and upscaling low-resolution content to 4K. Additionally, the TV also supports Dolby Atmos, Dolby Vision, IMAX enhanced, and Netflix Calibrated mode for enhanced audio and visual performance.

When it real-world performance, the Sony BRAVIA X90L proved to be a stellar TV in RTINGS’ review. The publication gave the TV a “Mixed Usage” rating of 8.1 thanks to its elevated max brightness and excellent contrast ratio which result in deep blacks and superb HDR performance.

For instance, the Sony X90L displayed a contrast ratio of 42,222:1 and good black uniformity. With a DCI-P3 xy and uv coverage of 91.89% and 96.6%, respectively, and excellent out-of-the-box calibration, the TV also showed great color performance.

Furthermore, RTINGS measured a Real Scene Peak Brightness of 775 nits in SDR and a Peak 2% Window brightness of over 1,100 nits in HDR mode for both movies and gaming. In other words, the Sony X90L is plenty bright for use in well lit areas.

Finally, the Sony X90L is also a pretty good TV for gaming with a 120 Hz native refresh rate, low input lag, quick response times, and VRR support. Console users will also be well-served as the TV supports 4K/1080p 120 Hz input, HDR, VRR, and Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM) for both Xbox Series and PlayStation 5 consoles. That said, Sony has packed a few extra features in the X90L for the PlayStation 5, namely Auto HDR Tone Mapping and Auto HDR Genre Mode.

Long story short, if you are on the hunt for a great 4K TV that can work both as a media consumption and a gaming display, the 65-inch Sony X90L on sale could be a perfect fit.
