The Endgame Gear OP1 8K is already a lightweight gaming mouse, coming in at just 49 g, but PMM, a mouse mod company out of Germany, has endeavoured to make it even later with its latest Pulse mod kit for the OP1 8K. According to the Reddit announcement post PMM's Pulse is essentially a replacement shell that you will be able to buy for the Endgame Gear OP1 8K. While the ultimate goal of the Pulse mod kit is to make the OP1 8K lighter, it also adds features, like alternate coating options, and a nifty click tensioning system.
The shape is based on a 3D scan of the original Endgame Gear OP1 shell, so it should be a fairly accurate representation of the original design. Mimicking the shape is important, given that shape is a major motivating factor for most people.
The mod kit comes in three variants:
- Full of holes: 30 g weight
- Solid sides (holes on the top): 30.9 g weight
- Solid (no holes on contact surfaces): 31.8 g weight
These weights are compared to the stock OP1 8K v2, which weighs in at 49.5 g, and all three versions of the 3D printed shell feature solid bases, which allow you to use the original mouse skates. There will also be a wireless version of the mod kit for the OP1w series, although PMM hasn't revealed any details about the wireless versions just yet. Presumably, the wireless version will weigh around 39 g once built, given the increased weight of the stock OP1w 4K v2, which comes in at 58.5 g, just 7.5 g shy of the Keychron M7 8K we recently reviewed.
PMM will sell the Pulse with two coating options, a standard, "slightly coarse and glossy" coating and the UltraGrip 2.0 ceramic coating, which is meant to be smoother and improve grip. The PMM click tensioning system hasn't been revealed in much detail, but it will supposedly allow users to tune the main click pre-travel and sensitivity by turning a screw.
PMM has announced that the Pulse mod kit will start at €70, while the original Endgame Gear mouse costs €79.90 in Europe. The Endgame Gear OP1 8K v2, on the other hand, retails for $89.99 on Amazon. Current availability on the mod kit is unknown, although it is estimated to be available sometime in October, and the announcement on Reddit claims that the installation can be completed within 30 minutes with the included tools. The PMM Pulse mod will be available as a standalone mod or a pre-built mouse, although pricing on the latter is also unclear, but it will inevitably cost more than the combined cost of the 3D printed shell and the Endgame Gear OP1 8K v2 mouse combined, since it will also include assembly labour.
Even with the PMM mod, the OP1 8K will have staunch competition from the likes of Corsair, who recently apparently silently launched a production wireless mouse that weighs just 36 g.
