Deal | 2025 RPG hidden gem earns 91% positive reviews and drops to its lowest-ever price on Steam

Alongside titles such as Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and Kingdom Come: Deliverance II, The Necromancer's Tale was one of the biggest surprises for RPG fans in 2025, largely thanks to its outstanding story. The game is currently 35% off on Steam, reducing the price from $24.99 to $16.24 for the first time, according to SteamDB. Thanks to its Steam Deck Verified status, the deal should also appeal to handheld gamers.

As the title suggests, players take on the role of a necromancer – or, more accurately, a noble who becomes increasingly consumed by the dark arts while pursuing knowledge and revenge. Rather than commanding a vast undead army from the outset, you'll first need to study forbidden tomes and perform occult rituals to acquire the necessary knowledge, all while making sure no one discovers your secret. Otherwise, you may find yourself facing trial – or even vigilante justice.

Dialogue and player choice are at the heart of the experience. More than 180 characters can be deceived, persuaded, threatened or manipulated against one another. The trust of both individuals and factions influences available dialogue options and opens up different ways to resolve quests. Along the way, players explore hidden crypts and engage in relatively simple turn-based battles against a variety of enemies.

Judging by both reviews and player feedback, The Necromancer's Tale looks like a genuine hidden gem. Although it has received only 877 Steam reviews since launching about a year ago, 91% of them are positive. The CRPG also impressed Try Hard Guides, which praised its "presenting a story that is superbly well-written and deeply engaging" as well as its dark atmosphere. The review did note, however, that the game's pacing is rather slow and its turn-based combat can feel somewhat sluggish. Even so, it still earned an impressive 9 out of 10.
