If the drastic XPS changes this year are rubbing you the wrong way, then the 2024 Spectre x360 series might be worth a look. The latest HP model incorporates more minor visual changes that are arguably more agreeable and traditional than the "experimental" impression of the new XPS design.

For CES this year, HP has refreshed both its 14-inch and 16-inch Spectre x360 2-in-1 models to coincide with the launch of the 14th gen Intel CPU series. While the new 14-inch model has received more significant external changes, the 16-inch model is more or less visually identical to its 2023 version with only slight external differences.

An easy way to visually distinguish between the 2023 and 2024 Spectre x360 16 versions is to look for the integrated MicroSD reader as HP has dropped this feature on the latest model. Port options are otherwise the same albeit rearranged.

Internally, the 2024 model swaps out the Arc A370M for a GeForce RTX 4050. The discrete mobile Arc series has barely made a dent in the market and so the switch back to GeForce is an understandable move. Display options have also changed from 60 Hz to 120 Hz variable refresh rate as standard. In return, however, the native resolutions of the new display options have been reduced from the 2023 options as shown by the table below.

Nonetheless, the minor year-over-year visual changes to the Spectre x360 series feel welcoming after seeing the drastic changes to the 2024 Dell XPS lineup. Many reviewers weren't happy with last year's XPS 13 Plus design for several reasons and to see that design completely replace the venerable XPS 15 might be a bit too much for longtime fans of the series. In contrast, potential buyers of the 2024 Spectre x360 16 can expect a comforting level of familiarity that is similar to its 2023 predecessor.

The 2024 Spectre x360 16 is now available at HP.com and Best Buy starting at $1600 in Black and Blue color options. There is no Silver option unlike on the new Spectre x360 14 series.
