Deal | 12-core AMD Ryzen 9 7900X price drops by 35% in Amazon sale to match slower Ryzen 7 9700X ^↺

AMD's Ryzen 9 7900X launched nearly two years ago, bringing with it many improvements over its predecessors, including improved efficiency and a leap in performance over its Ryzen 5000 predecessor. The Ryzen 9 7900X has been discounted by 35% in an Amazon sale, with a final price of $358.52 — a $189.48, coming in at about the same price as the newer Ryzen 7 9700X (curr. $359 on Amazon), which has four fewer CPU cores. 

The AMD Ryzen 9 7900X is a 12-core, 24-thread CPU based on AMD's Zen 4 architecture. In our in-depth performance review of the 7900X, we found it to be as much as 26% faster than the AMD Ryzen 9 5950X. The 7900X also managed to match the Intel Core i9-13900K and trade blows with the Core i9-14900K in some benchmarks. 

Meanwhile, although official reviews of the 9900X have yet to surface, the Ryzen 9 7900X seems to compare favourably in some leaked benchmarks, with official Gamers Nexus performance reviews of the Ryzen 7 9700X revealing minimal performance improvements for Zen 5. 

Given that the Amazon sale has dropped the price of the Ryzen 9 7900X to the same price as the 9700X, while the 7900X is significantly faster than the 9700X and has more cores, the older CPU presents a good value proposition. It's an exceptional option for anyone looking for flagship CPU performance for either a gaming or workstation build without spending an arm and a leg.
