Volkswagen confirms its all-electric Passat alternative ID. Aero is scheduled to launch in 2023
The largest German automaker Volkswagen has primarily served the SUV and crossover segment with its new all-electric vehicles like the quite popular ID.4 and ID.5. This also means that the Wolfsburg-based manufacturer has yet to reveal a traditional electric sedan which could serve as the successor to the iconic VW Passat.
Volkswagen has already revealed a similarly looking electric sedan concept called ID. Vizzion during the Geneva Motor Show in 2018, but the now developed electric sedan is expected to be named either VW ID. Aero or VW Aero B. Either way, according to a report by Motor1, Volkswagen CEO Herbert Diess has now officially confirmed that the electric Passat alternative is scheduled to hit the EV market in 2023.
However, the upcoming launch of Volkswagen's electric ID. Aero, which could come in a sleek fastback design like the VW Arteon, will not result in the discontinuation of the successful VW Passat. The mid-size German sedan and its traditional internal combustion engines remain attractive cars for fleet managers in numerous European markets. Still, the VW ID. Aero will mark an important milestone for Volkswagen's EV strategy as it could become a worthy competitor of popular electric sedans like the Tesla Model 3 or even Model S.
