Besides the well-known EV heavyweights like Tesla and Volkswagen, more and more international automakers are planning to enter the booming market segment of all-electric cars. Among those companies is the Italian luxury car manufacturer Maserati, which has once again teased its very first electric sports car that will be based on the GranTurismo.
As expected, the Maserati GranTurismo Folgore looks very sleek in the teaser images embedded below this article. The electric sports car comes with a large but familiar grille design, which thankfully does not reach the dimensions of the one found on the new BMW i7. While further design details of the GranTurismo Folgore are hardly discernible due to dark nature of these teaser pictures, Maserati at least revealed some pretty impressive technical specifications of its very first EV.
The electric sports car is equipped with three motors which provide 880 kW or around 1,200 horsepower. This allows the Maserati GranTurismo Folgore to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in less than 3 seconds, while its top speed will purportedly exceed 186 mph. The Italian automaker has not provided any details regarding the range or the battery capacity of the GranTurismo Folgore, but the car can supposedly be charged at a very fast 300 kW. Maserati further plans to release an all-electric "Folgore" variant of all of its cars and SUVs by the year 2025.
