Asus offers a range of business laptops in its ExpertBook models. The new ExpertBook B5 5605 is a large 16-inch laptop with modern hardware and good features, which costs around €1,300 (~$1526). Our review model features a current Arrow Lake processor from Intel, which offers more than enough performance for everyday office use. The RAM can be easily upgraded and the device offers extensive security features, with a SmartCard reader available as an option.
For the display, Asus installs a high-resolution, matte IPS panel with a frequency of 144 Hz. While the display doesn't offer the brilliance of an OLED panel, the content is sharp, colors are sufficiently vibrant, and the matte surface eliminates annoying reflections. PWM flickering is absent, making the screen very suitable for work or productivity purposes.
In the business sector, however, Asus has to compete with well-known manufacturers such as Dell, HP and Lenovo, and it is precisely in terms of quality that the ExpertBook B5 exhibits some weaknesses. First of all, the base unit can be twisted somewhat, which results in creaking noises. Secondly, the hinges are far too loose. Thirdly, the screen teeters noticeably. Lastly, our test model also had an issue with the clickpad, which was a little loose, particularly in the lower right area, which led to a rattling noise when operated. Such shortcomings are not appropriate for a business laptop priced at €1,300 (~$1526).
We are also currently reviewing another direct competitor to the ExpertBook, the Lenovo ThinkPad E16, so it will be interesting to see how the two compare. All further information about the new ExpertBook B5 can be found in our detailed review.
