The GPD MicroPC 2 is now available to back on Indiegogo with a sizable launch discount on its alleged eventual MSRP. To recap, the MicroPC 2 arrives six years after GPD brought its predecessor to the same crowdfunding campaign. Given the gap between the pair's releases, it should be no surprise to learn that the MicroPC 2 surpasses its predecessor in almost every area but falls short of the power that the larger Pocket 4 offers (curr. $1,071 on Amazon).
As far as we can tell, the only advantages that the MicroPC retains over its successor are an RS-232 connection, a smaller overall footprint and a 50 g weight saving. The MicroPC 2 gets the better of the MicroPC 2 in all other areas though, an overview of which you can find below. The second-generation model features plenty of ports too, although all are rear-facing apart from a single USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-A connection:
- 1x 3.5 mm jack
- 1x HDMI 2.1
- 1x MicroSD card reader
- 1x RJ45
- 2x USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A
- 1x USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C
On top of that, the MicroPC 2 leverages the Processor N250 from Intel's Twin Lake family, 16 GB of LPDDR5-4800 RAM, a 27.5 Wh battery and an M.2 2280 slot that provides PCIe 3.0 x4 speeds. Moreover, GPD has included a 7-inch IPS display that delivers 500 nits peak brightness and a native 1,920 x 1,080-pixel resolution, all within a 171.2 x 110.8 x 23.5 mm housing that weighs 490 g.
Currently, the MicroPC 2 is available to back for $495 with 512 GB of storage. According to GPD, it intends to eventually sell the device for $607, although it remains to be seen whether that will ever come to pass. At the time of writing, the company hopes to begin shipping units to Indiegogo backers in September 2025.
