Sony refreshes the DualSense controller with two new colour variants, Midnight Black and Cosmic Red
A rumour from a few days ago told us that Sony planned to refresh the DualSense controllers with a new look. The said rumour turned out to be accurate, as Sony has officially unveiled two new colourways for its controllers- Midnight Black and Cosmic Red. Sony says that both DualSense variants should be available for purchase starting next month. Availability will be subject to change based on the region, so your mileage may vary.
The Midnight Black variant stays true to Sony's tried and tested aesthetic seen in its the DualSense's predecessors. On the other hand, Cosmic Red will serve as a welcome change for those tired of garden variety black or white controllers. Much like the original DualSense launched alongside the PS5, both variants keep the dual-tone design, although it is less apparent on the Midnight Black version.
One can only hope that Sony fixed the drift issues plaguing some DualSense units, given that it was determined to be a hardware problem. However, Sony is in somewhat of a Catch 22 situation here. A new design would imply that there was something wrong with the original one, which could translate to legal trouble. On the other hand, failure to fix the issue would attract the wrath of PS5 owners, something Sony cannot afford, given the looming threat of Microsoft.
