Samsung's Galaxy S25 series phones mostly have the same camera hardware as their predecessors, except for the S25 Ultra (pre-order on Amazon and get a free $200 gift card). However, Samsung brought some software-based enhancements to the latest flagships, which make them more capable camera smartphones than the last-gen devices.
These camera-focused software enhancements are currently exclusive to the Galaxy S25 series, but things could change with One UI 7.1. Older flagship phones will reportedly get these camera features with the update. Among these new features is the new film-style filters.
The camera app on the Galaxy S25 series has six new filters, and there are improved versions of the four existing filters. On the latest flagship phones, all these filters are customizable, which means it's possible to adjust the color temperature, contrast, and saturation levels according to your preference. AI-based custom filters are available as well.
Besides the new filters, the Samsung Galaxy S25 series introduces the "Log Video" format. It's geared toward professional videographers, and while it's initially available in the Pro mode, you can bring it to the standard mode. Another video feature is the ability to capture 10-bit HDR videos. It's enabled by default.
Among the other new camera features on the Galaxy S25 series are Expert Raw mode with virtual aperture control, Apple's Live Photos-like Motion Photo feature, and Single Take. It's not clear which older flagships will get these new camera features, but the S24 Ultra may be the first.
