Samsung made a big change to the S Pen for the Galaxy S25 Ultra. Unlike the S Pen of the Galaxy S24 Ultra which has Bluetooth and Air Actions, the one that ships with the Galaxy S25 Ultra lacks Bluetooth and all the features it brings such as using it to control the camera or video playback. If you are considering using the S Pen of the Galaxy S24 Ultra with the Galaxy S25 Ultra, here's a public service announcement informing you that it won't work.
While the Galaxy S25 Ultra won't be available until February 7 (pre-order the 256GB version on Amazon for $1,299.99), some reviewers already have their hands on the device, and one of them tried to test the Galaxy S24 Ultra's S Pen with the Galaxy S25 Ultra. Posted on X by YouTuber Michael Fisher a.k.a. Captain2Phones, the S Pen of the Galaxy S24 Ultra won't work with the Galaxy S25 Ultra for the following reasons.
First, he states the S Pen won't fit properly into the slot of the Galaxy S25 Ultra. This is probably the most important bit as forcing the stylus inside may break the stylus and the device. Nobody wants a repeat of the Galaxy Note 5 and its notorious S Pen.
There's also no way to (manually) pair the Bluetooth S Pen to the Galaxy S25 Ultra since in the case of the Galaxy S24 Ultra, all a user has to do is insert the S Pen into the slot. Another observation he shared is that the Galaxy S25 Ultra doesn't have a settings menu for a Bluetooth S Pen.
This last point might be a cause for concern since Samsung is expected to sell a Bluetooth S Pen for the Galaxy S25 Ultra. However, that can easily be fixed with a software update once the Bluetooth S Pen is available for purchase. Also, the lack of a settings menu for a Bluetooth S Pen means the Galaxy S25 Ultra won't work with other Bluetooth S Pens such as the S Pen Pro.
Samsung is yet to announce when the Bluetooth-enabled S Pen for the Galaxy S25 Ultra will be available. However, there's still a little over a week before the phone becomes available, so the listing may appear before the phone hits store shelves on February 7.
If you are wondering if the Galaxy S25 Ultra's S Pen will work with the Galaxy S24 Ultra, we asked Samsung, and the short answer is no. The long answer is that it won't work as it wasn't designed for it
. It is also advised that you don't try sticking it into the slot of the Galaxy S24 Ultra as that may damage it.
