EcoFlow is reportedly planning to introduce a paywall for special features. This means consumers may no longer be able to access a product’s entire feature set at no additional cost. It remains to be seen whether this approach will gain acceptance in the market for power backup solutions.

EcoFlow is probably one of the better-known manufacturers of energy solutions, such as power stations and solar panels. Batteries aren't the only products made by the company. EcoFlow’s range also includes many products offering smart features. For example, these devices may be able to display power output or work with an app. Currently, purchasing a product grants users access to all available smart features, requiring no additional payment to unlock extra software functions. However, this is set to change, according to various sources and a statement issued by the company itself.

Some smart features in the app will be marked with a golden diamond –  an explicit indication of what is meant. Prices have emerged for a few features. As an example, intelligent power management is likely going to cost at least €3.99 (US$4.19), but there is still no information regarding the subscription duration. One thing is clear: The premium features will cost more than just a few pennies; using one feature on several devices may set consumers back as much as €70 (US$74).

Responding to queries from German media outlet Appgefahren, EcoFlow has seemingly confirmed its plans to introduce paid features. The company said that whilst users don’t have to pay additional fees right now, they may be charged for future products. EcoFlow hasn’t revealed any specific plans or details concerning the scope and pricing of services.
