EcoFlow has opened preorders for its PowerHat designed for solar charging electronics on-the-go. The waterproof hat has solar panels in its brim and dual USB ports capable of charging two devices at once. Its maximum 5V 2.4A output can charge a 4000 mAh battery in about 3-4 hours.

EcoFlow has opened preorders for its PowerHat designed for solar charging electronics on-the-go. The IP65-rated waterproof hat has solar panels in its brim to charge up to two devices at a time through the USB-A and USB-C ports. The hat can charge a 4000 mAh battery in three to four hours, which can vary depending on the amount of sunlight shining.

Campers and hikers have various options from portable power banks to backpack-mounted solar panels to charge electronics, such as headlamps (such as this one on Amazon) and plasma lighters (like this one on Amazon). Any exposed surface can be used to mount solar panels, so EcoFlow has taken the next, obvious step of combining a wide-brimmed boonie hat with solar cells.

The PowerHat uses crack-resistant PERC (passive emitter and rear contact) monocrystalline silicon solar cells with a rated efficiency of 23-24%. The charging system has a maximum operating current of 2 amps at 5V, a short circuit current of 2.2 amps, and an open circuit voltage of 7.8 volts.

The medium-to-large model has a US hat size of 7 to 7 1/4 inches and a head circumference of 22 to 22.8 inches (56 to 58 cm). The large-to-extra-large model has a US hat size of 7 3/8 to 7 5/8 inches and a head circumference of 23.2 to 24 inches (59 to 61 cm). Both models weigh approximately 13 ounces (370 gr).

Readers can preorder the EcoFlow PowerHat until August 31 at a discounted price of $79.
