Nonprofit Project EverGreen has released a free environmental impact tool, the Clean Air Calculator. The calculator provides home and property owners with a quick way to gauge the impact of their landscaping decisions.
Greenery, such as trees, grass, and shrubs, provides a significant benefit to people nearby. This includes tree shade from the hot sun resulting in lower ambient daylight temperatures, CO2 reduction through carbon sequestration, shelter for beneficial wildlife such as birds, and improved human biology and mood due to beneficial natural volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
Users enter the address of interest, then draw the location of greenery, such as trees, grass, and shrubs, on the map. This quick process is all that is required for the Clean Air Calculator to generate its report, which can be emailed, exported as a data file, or saved as a PDF file.
The report displays the annual amount of sequestered CO2, the cubic yards of clean air created, the miles of automotive carbon emissions offset, and the number of people that benefit from the shade, cleaner air, and health benefits of the greenery. The data can be used by property owners to design landscaping that improves the community with a healthier earth.
Readers stuck working from home can improve their indoor air by adding plants like this money tree sold on Amazon.
