For several months, this new game has been on everyone's lips, and at Summer Game Fest, Capcom finally made Resident Evil 9 official. The game was unveiled to the public in a horrific trailer, and there's no doubt that you'll be thrilled to play it.
The director of Resident Evil 7 is at the helm of this new opus. And while some fans may have been expecting Leon to return to a desert island, none of that has happened.
In this enigmatic trailer, we meet Grace Ashcroft, an FBI technician who could well be Alyssa Ashcroft's daughter. As the trailer unfolds, it becomes clear that she's investigating mysterious events that took place in the mythical town of Raccoon City, which was reduced to rubble following a violent conflict.
But unfortunately, there's nothing more to go on. Indeed, although this trailer is mysterious and announces the color of Resident Evil 9, there are no additional details of note.
However, the lack of information on the subject may lead us to wonder about the type of gameplay that will be present. We can imagine, for example, a game similar to the previous ones, or conversely an open world, which would bring a new dimension to the successful franchise.
We also note the horrific universe, which seems similar to Resident Evil 7. Indeed, the trailer shows the main character strapped to a hospital bed with a voice saying: “I know now that you're the one that I've been searching for... special one. Chosen one.”. What's more, the town of Raccoon City is entirely in ruins, hiding numerous nooks and crannies in which creatures can hide and attack you. Not forgetting that Capcom has declared that this new game will mark a “new era of surival horror”, stating that: “technological advancements combined with the development team's depth of experience combine in a story with rich characters and gameplay that's more immersive than ever before”.
In any case, new features should be unveiled in the coming weeks and months, much to the delight of fans. Finally, the release date has been announced. Capcom's new game will be released on PS5, Xbox Séries and PC on February 27, 2026.
