On June 18, Xiaomi had a live broadcast in China hosted by Liu Weibing, the President of Xiaomi's smartphone business and Thomas Wang, the General Manager of Redmi. The event saw both company executives go in-depth on their upcoming Redmi devices, specifically the Redmi K80 Ultra and the Redmi K Pad. However, alongside these two products, they also revealed the Redmi Game Controller, the first mobile controller from the brand.
The Redmi Game Controller is shown to have a white matte finish complemented by light gray Xbox-style buttons, D-pad, thumbsticks, and triggers. In the video, the controller is initially shown attached to the Redmi K Pad. It holds the tablet in place with the aid of clamps whose height can be adjusted depending on the size of the device.
What's interesting about the Bluetooth controller is its design. Unlike many mobile controllers such as the 8BitDo Ultimate Mobile Gaming Controller which is a single unit with a telescopic design, the Redmi Game Controller is made up of two halves, with each one attaching to each end of the device. It isn't an unusual design as it is pretty much the same as the Turtle Beach Atom (curr. available on Amazon for 49.99).
Since the controller is a wireless type, our guess is that the two halves pair to each other first, probably via 2.4GHz before connecting to the device via Bluetooth. The video also shows that the Redmi Game Controller can be fused together into a single device and used like a regular wireless controller.
There are no specific details yet about the Redmi Game Controller such as the type of thumbsticks (and triggers) it has, the battery capacity, battery life, supported devices, price, and availability. Notwithstanding, we expect more details will be revealed when the Redmi K Pad is officially released.
