The Operator is now available for $0 on Epic Games Store. It's the penultimate freebie for the month, and as for the last free game of June 2025, it turns out to be a multi-award winner. To be specific, as the storefront has revealed with the update on the free games section, the final giveaway for this month is Sable.
Released in September 2021, this soon-to-be Epic Games Store free game has won PC Gamer's Best Narrative of 2021, got nominated for the Best Debut Indie award at The Game Awards 2021, and secured a spot in Paste Magazine's top 5 game of 2021 list.
As for the game itself, Sable puts players in the ruined yet vast desert planet of Midden. While it features an open-world map, the title is best known for its complete lack of combat mechanics. Instead of action, it mostly focuses on non-linear exploration, with no main questline forcing the progression.
Players get to choose their own path, engage in quests as they like, and go through the platforming challenges as they wish. Sable is also known for its striking hand-drawn visuals, and the desert landscapes are often regarded to offer a zen-like experience.
Now, while this upcoming free game is praised for its freedom, it's often criticized for not-so-challenging puzzles. Still, Sable is relatively well-rated on Steam, boasting a "Very Positive" player rating that's based on around 4,700 reviews. The title generally goes for $24.99 when there's no sale in place, but it will cost $0 on Epic Games Store from June 26 to July 03 UTC 15:00. Check out the video below to learn more.
