Rockstar’s iconic open-world western may finally be heading to Nintendo’s next console. According to new reports from Gamereactor, Red Dead Redemption 2 is being prepared for release on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, with hints that it could launch as early as later this year.
This isn’t the first time RDR2 has been linked to the next-generation Switch. Back when the console's initial game lineup was being discussed around the Nintendo Direct earlier in April, the game was rumored to be part of the reveal. It ultimately didn’t appear at the event - but insiders are now saying the plan is still very much alive.
In addition to the Switch version, the report also claims that a "next-gen upgrade patch" is on the way for current-gen systems. The said patch is expected to improve RDR2’s performance and visuals on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, which is something players have been waiting on for years now. It’s still unclear whether the Switch version would launch alongside this patch, or arrive on its own schedule.
There’s also speculation that Rockstar could be using RDR2 as a starting point to bring more of its catalog to Nintendo’s ecosystem. For now, nothing has been confirmed, and like all leaks, plans can shift. But if this one sticks, Nintendo Switch 2 owners might soon have the chance to experience one of the most critically acclaimed titles of the last decade on a brand-new console.
