Even with the popularity of cloud storage, USB flash drives remain a convenient form of portable storage. Whether a buyer has privacy concerns or requires a bootable device to install an OS, they are essential accessories. As files take up more space and SSDs become faster, PNY just announced it's updating its line of Type-C USB flash drives.
Headlining the new PNY drives is the USB 3.2 Gen 2 Pro Elite V3, with maximum read speeds of up to 1,000MB/s and write speeds topping out at 800MB/s. One variation of this drive offers 2TBs of storage to match the capacity of bulkier external storage. Prices for the Pro Elite V3 range from $29.99 for 256GB to $144.99 for 2TB capacities. These Type-C USB flash drives are aimed at gamers and editors who need to transfer large files quickly.
Joining the PNY Pro Elite V3 are the Elite-X Fit and Elite drives. The Elite-X Fit utilizes the USB 3.2 Gen 1 standard, with more pedestrian read/write speeds of 200MB/s and 100MB/s, respectively. With a protective sliding cap and a shell that's only 1.07" long, it's the most inconspicuous of the new PNY offerings. Elite-X Fit options include a three-pack of 64GB drives for $27.99 or a single 256GB model costing $24.99.
The conventional-looking PNY Elite is another USB 3.2 Gen 1 flash drive priced to have mainstream appeal. Transfer speeds won't set any records, but buyers can stock up with a five-pack of 64GB drives priced at just over $5 per unit. The 256GB Elite is the best choice for higher-quality images and videos and carries a $17.99 MSRP.
The PNY Pro Elite V3 and Elite-X Fit should be available on Amazon and PNY's website shortly. Buyers will have to wait a bit longer for the most affordable Elite to ship. It's also important to keep in mind all of the new PNY flash drives only use Type-C connectors. Fortunately, these smaller ports are now common on desktops, laptops, and smartphones.
