Corsair launches EX400U external SSD with MagSafe, USB 4 and up to 4,000 MB/s for iPhone, Mac and Windows PCs
The just-released Corsair EX400U aims to impress with its incredible speed. When connected to a computer via USB 4 or Thunderbolt 4, the SSD can reach sequential read speeds of up to 4,000 MB/s and write speeds of up to 3,600 MB/s.
While the new Corsair SSD might not quite match the performance of M.2 PCIe 4.0 SSDs such as the Samsung 990 Evo Plus, the drive is significantly faster than many competing external USB-C storage solutions. For example, the Samsung T9 (from $128 on Amazon) maxes out at 2,000 MB/s. If needed, the Corsair EX400U can also be hooked up to older and slower USB-C ports, which naturally results in lower speeds.
The SSD's enclosure measures a mere 2.5 x 2.5 inches and weighs only 3.2 ounces. Moreover, the SSD boasts a sleek gray design with a single USB-C port, the Corsair logo and a small white status LED. A rather unique feature is the Corsair EX400U's ability to magnetically attach to the back of an Apple iPhone via MagSafe, which can be convenient for recording ProRes videos and directly saving these huge video files on the SSD.
Price and availability
The Corsair EX400U USB 4 SSD is available with 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB of storage capacity at suggested retail prices of $139, $199 and $359, respectively. The external drive is already listed at Corsair’s official online store, Amazon and other notable retailers. In any case, the SSD is covered by a three-year manufacturer warranty.
