Dell resurrected its iconic Alienware Area 51 lineup at CES 2025. While it is packed to the brim with next-gen hardware from Intel and Nvidia, it comes with a hefty increase in price. Those who are okay with last-gen hardware will be pleased to know the top-spec Alienware x16 R2 has received a substantial price cut on Dell's website.
You can buy the decked out Alienware x16 R2 model for just $2,699, a full $600 lower than its asking price. That isn't exactly cheap, but it gets you a GeForce RTX 4080, an Intel Core Ultra 9 185H, 32 GB of non-upgradable LPDDR5x RAM, a 2 TB SSD, a 16-inch 16:10 (1,920 x 1,200) display clocked at 480 Hz, Thunderbolt 4, Wi-Fi 7 and a 90 Wh battery. The above specs are ideal for a 1200p panel, and you should be able to run just about any modern-day game at respectable frame rates.
Our in-depth review noted the laptop didn't offer much in the way of a performance uplift over its Raptor Lake-based predecessor. That checks out because Meteor Lake wasn't designed for raw performance. But, some of the Alienware x16 R1's issues, such as sub-par SD card reader performance and low battery life, have been resolved with the Alienware x16 R2.
