Nothing announces its plan to launch its first-gen TWS earbuds through Selfridges in the UK
OnePlus' co-founder and ex-CEO Carl Pei has recently left that electronics OEM to start another. Known as Nothing, it is now backed by investors such as Casey Neistat with the intention of releasing consumer products that offer a new and "seamless" relationship between the user and the technology in question.
Nothing had originally planned to introduce its first-ever product, a pair of TWS earbuds called the ear (1)s, in June 2021. However, Pei has recently conceded that these plans will not completely work out, and will be deferred until later in 2021 instead.
Then again, as if to reassure all interested parties that these plans are still more or less on track, Nothing has made a second new announcement. It will partner with Selfridges, a retail chain that remains an established household name in the UK, to launch the ear (1) buds.
The 2 brands have apparently been brought together by the group Smartech for this new partnership, which will see the inaugural Nothing TWS earbuds on shelves at Selfridges' London store, as well as through this store's website.
However, despite this level of detail, Nothing has yet to clarify whether this will be the ear (1) product's only avenue to the market, or whether they will even be available in countries besides the UK or not. In addition, this new and apparently exclusive sales model does not say a lot for the price of the ear (1) buds, or for its appeal to techy consumers in general.
