Carl Pei's latest start-up Nothing has just launched something for those who like its first-ever product, the ear (1) TWS earbuds, but not their initial design with their white accents. This new "Black Edition" has the exact same specs and price as the 'originals', but with a different look that, as their maker might hope, appeal to more consumers.
Despite this, the emerging tech company has now arranged for "limited drops" of their stock in certain partner stores ahead of their general release. They will start from tomorrow - December 8, 2021 - and will take place in a number of countries worldwide.
They will start with some new partners such as KITH in Paris, New York and Tokyo; Browns in London, Eslite Bookstore in Taiwan and Legacy in France, followed by some existing ones such as Selfridges in London on December 13, 2021.
Most of these will stock a certain number of ear (1) Black units in both their online and brick-and-mortar stores. There are also some online-only drops on sites such as StockX, SSENSE and Uncrate.
However, the overall message is (just in case it wasn't clear already) that Nothing is going for a sense of their products being worth actually going to a (probably high-end) store, or to a less than typical online source, with this new initiative.
In any case, the ear (1) Black Editions are still slated to go to general sale via the OEM's own website on December 13, and may be purchased with some forms of crypto to boot. It may be interesting to see which strategy works out best for Carl Pei's well-publicized new company.
