Nintendo Switch 2: Large availability expected at launch
Although Nintendo has not yet officially announced the release of the Switch 2, rumors and information about the upcoming Nintendo console are piling up. The Switch 2 is expected to be launched in the second half of 2024 and will feature some exciting improvements, such as a significantly larger screen.
As interest in the new Switch increases, so does the worry of not being able to get hold of a device. However, anyone still traumatized by the console shortage of the PlayStation 5 and fearing a similar problem with the release of the Switch 2 can breathe a sigh of relief. The Switch 2 is expected to be available in sufficient quantities at launch.
Nintendo aims to produce 10 million consoles in its first financial year
With a view to the display delivery dates, Takashi Mochizuki, journalist at Bloomberg revealed interesting information on X (formerly Twitter) regarding the planned number of units of the new Switch:
"Display shipment data suggests Nintendo will make more than 10 million next gen consoles in first fiscal year. Unlike PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, which experienced chip shortages at launch, Nintendo's console would be much easier to find in stores."
These are encouraging developments regarding the availability of the new Nintendo console. If this information is correct, there is a good chance that everyone will be able to get their hands on a Switch 2 for the launch. After all, the market launch of the supposed handheld hybrid is not expected until the last third of the year. If Nintendo's financial year ends in March 2025, the 10 million consoles will only have to last half a year.
Almost 25 percent more units than in the launch phase of the PS5
Sony shipped around 7.8 million PS5 consoles between the launch in November 2020 and March 2021. Should Nintendo actually produce 10 million consoles within the first financial year, another console shortage is rather unlikely.
