It could be based on the Intel Moorestown platform

Samsung’s UMPCs are generally damn good, although little on the expensive side. Take the Q1 Ultra for example, an UMPC with a Core Solo 1300MHz processor, 1GB RAM and 80GB hard disk. Recently they had a shot at the Pocket PC with the Mondi. So when UMPCportal reports of a rumored slate from the Korean giant, we got interested.

UMPCPortal reports of a Senior Executive of Samsung mentioning that they’ll be bringing a Slate into the market in the second half of this year. It could be powered by an Intel Atom processor. If that is right, the device could be running the Moorestown platform, which runs at 600MHz with ‘turbo’ features enabling it to over-clock to a maximum of 1.2Ghz (video). It will have the Power-gating feature which manages the power and

The device will support HD (720p) video encoding capabilities and is USB-host-capable (I.e. you can add a docking station to it). It should also support multi-touch. As Moorestown is seen commonly with Moblin, the Samsung Slate might have that as well, only guesswork here though.

Intel has previously teamed up with major vendors like LG to drive the Moorestown chip in to MIDs. Moorestown consists of a System on Chip (codenamed Lincroft) integrating a 45nm Atom processor core, graphics, video and memory controller all in one. The platform also includes an input/output (I/O) hub, "Langwell," which Chipzilla says includes a range of I/O blocks and support for wireless. Intel promises a 10-fold reduction in idle power consumption.
