Gateway launches Intel powered LT2000 netbook
This netbook is sleek, fashionable, and portable
Gateway, a wholly owned subsidiary of Acer Inc. has just launched an Intel Atom powered netbook named LT2000. Last month Gateway had launched an AMD powered netbook called the LT3100 which featured an AMD Athlon 64 L110 single-core processor, 2GB DDR2 memory, ATI Radeon X1270 GPU, 11.6-inch (1366 x 768) display, and 250GB of hard disk drive. This month Gateway decided to launch a netbook based on the Intel Atom line of netbook processors.
The new Intel powered LT2000 netbook has the same external design (an engraved Gateway logo on top and modern silver trim accents) as that of its predecessor the LT3100, but, in terms of specifications it is powered by a 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 processor, 1GB DDR2 RAM and an Intel GMA950 onboard graphics card. The LT2000 provides excellent mobility as it is just about an inch thick and has a weight of just 2.62 pounds, so it can easily fit into a purse or a backpack. It has a 10.1-inch WSVGA (1024x600) LED backlit TFT LCD display with an aspect ratio of 16:9. Other features of the LT2000 netbook are as follows:
· Multi-in-1 Digital Media Card Reader
· 802.11b/g Wi-Fi and Ethernet
· VGA out port
· Web Camera
· Two Built-in Stereo Speakers
· Dolby Headphone Technology
· Three USB 2.0 Ports
· Multi-Gesture Touchpad
· Dimensions: 10.17 (w) x 7.24 (D) x 1.03 inches (H)
This netbook is available in two colors Cherry Red and NightSky Black. It is powered by a 3-cell Li-ion battery which the company claims can go on for about 3 hours. This according to me is a bit less as users can get some other netbook models which offer an improved battery life (almost 3 times more e.g. Toshiba's NB205-310).
The Gateway LT2000 netbook line comes with additional preinstalled software including Microsoft Works with Office Home and Student 2007 trial, Gateway Recovery Management, Adobe Reader, and Norton Internet Security 2009 trial. This netbook comes with a standard one year warranty. The price of the LT2000 is $299.99 which is almost $100 less than the AMD powered LT3100 netbook.
