NVIDIA announces Tegra 2 even before releasing the first Tegra-based system

NVIDIA, the world leader in visual computing technologies and the inventor of the GPU, had recently showcased the Tegra computer-on-a-chip platform. Tegra is supposedly the world’s smallest and lowest power computer-on-a-chip which delivers desktop-class Internet browsing with Flash video and animation acceleration, and up to 1080p HD video playback. It supports always-on operation for instant access to the Internet and provides up to 5 times the battery life of current netbooks.

Just when Tegra one is slowly becoming popular, NVIDIA announces Tegra 2 to be coming in 2010. The Tegra 2 chip should come with twice the computational and graphics power of its predecessor – as reported by Fudzilla. This upcoming platform will sport an ARM 9 Coretex - a dual core ARM CPU. The main target is of course the smartphone market, but NVIDIA is planning to bring it to netbooks bigtime.
