It seems as if MSI is all set to expand its market share in the gaming domain with a variety of gaming laptops like the 14-inch GX403, 15.4-inch GX623 & GX633, and 17-inch GX723 being designed specifically to suit the needs of the hardcore gamers. Now, MSI has launched two new gaming notebook models in the 17-inch category i.e. GT729 and EX723. Both these notebooks promise to deliver speed, power, and an enriching audio/video experience.

The GT729 and EX723 come with a 17-inch, 16:10 aspect ratio, TFT LCD display which is capable of delivering resolutions of up to 1440x900. They will be powered by either an Intel Centrino2 Processor or an Intel Core2 Duo processor featuring the Intel PM45 Express Chipset. The exclusive Turbo Drive Engine technology will enable the gamers to switch between 5 different power modes like Gaming mode, Movie mode, Presentation mode, Office mode, and Turbo Battery mode while the laptop is connected to the AC mains. This will help in increasing the battery life of the 6/9-cell battery. Another important feature on these two notebooks is that it has 4 theatre class bass speakers with 1 subwoofer which is recognized by Dolby Surround Sound. These speakers deliver one of the best audio experiences to a gamer.

Talking about the exterior, it is once again surrounded with the ingenious flame design as an extension of the previous G-Series’ unique element which symbolizes the essence of speed. The new models have an aluminum base with added metallic threads on the cover, giving it an outstanding sense of fashion.

Other common features on both models are:

·         Windows Vista operating system

·         HDMI, eSata, and 3 USB2.0 ports

·         4-in-1 card reader

·         2MP webcam

·         DVD super multi/Blu-Ray

·         Ethernet, optional Bluetooth, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n

·         Audio in/out jack

·         Numeric keypad and colored W/A/S/D keys

The factors that distinguish the GT729 and EX723 are: amount of RAM, type of graphics card, and hard disk storage space. While the former uses the latest ATi Mobility Radeon HD 4850 3D Graphic Card (DDR3 1GB virtual RAM) and 4GB of DDR3 1066MHz RAM, the later uses the Nvidia Geforce G110M GPU (512MB VRAM) and 4GB of DDR2 667/800MHz RAM. Both use MSI’s VIVID Image Enhancement Technology to generate display signals which are rich in color. The GT729 offers up to 500GB of hard disk storage space while the EX723 supports a maximum of 320GB of HDD.

Looking at the specifications it seems as if the GT729 will be a bit more expensive than the EX723, but the pricing and availability of these two models has not yet been disclosed by the company.
