Windows 7 already captures 4% of PCs
Although it has a long way to go before matching XP’s dominance.
It is only about 3 weeks past Oct 22nd what Windows 7 was officially launched, and already it runs on about 4% of the computers worldwide – as reported by hexus. Vista took about five months to hit the same target. Don’t drool over yet, it has a catch – the amount includes RC1 also! But even then it is heartening, but Win 7 might have a long road ahead on the way of catching the 70% share XP had at one point of time.
Windows 7 was Microsoft’s seventh release, and hence the name. It was dubbed as the best OS yet by the company and with less fuss then Vista. Vista's disappointing performance really made th e Redmond Company rethink its undisputed leadership in the software world. Vista was plagued by huge incompatibility issues, large memory usage problems, and most frustratingly –frequent crashes. No wonder users chose to stick to the good old Windows XP. Only about 20% of the businesses have upgraded to Vista from XP.
Microsoft has involved computer makers, users and software developers this time while developing Windows 7. This makes it more customer-friendly, and breaks the monopolistic nature of the giant.
Windows 7 supports almost all XP software and external clients without any difficulties. It also improved itself on memory management front. Visually Win 7 is much like Vista, but more refined. It features winning raves include enabling computers, televisions, radios, digital picture frames and other "smart" devices in homes to talk to each other. It also lets people use PCs to record television programs and then watch shows "on demand" at any Internet-linked computer using Microsoft's Live service.
