Casio is reportedly readying a new variant of the G-Shock MR-G Frogman watch. The upcoming watch is expected to be the fourth addition to the MRG-BF1000 line of diving watches and will be a premium analog model.
The report comes from the ever-reliable Japanese blog Great G-Shock World and details a new G-Shock MR-G Frogman watch in the works with military-inspired aesthetics. The watch reportedly carries the model number MRG-BF1000RG and features a rubber band, as signified by the "R" in the model number.
The blog has also got hold of high-quality real-world photos of the watch, which gives us a closer look at its overall design. As you can see in the images below, the watch sports a military-inspired look with an olive-green rubber band and pale beige hands and indices. Meanwhile, the back case features a dark green vapor deposition along with an engraved Frogman character.
Due to its silver exterior, Great G-Shock World speculates that the Frogman MRG-BF1000RG likely doesn't have the deep-layer hardening treatment and DLC coating found on the existing MRG-BF1000 models. Instead, they believe a titanium carbide treatment was probably applied to improve its durability.
Finally, we’re told the Frogman MRG-BF1000RG will cost around 600,000 yen (~$4,000), which, while exorbitantly expensive for a G-Shock timepiece, is in line with the existing Frogman MRG-BF1000 models. For reference, the Frogman MRG-BF1000-R1A model currently retails for $5,000 while the MRG-BF1000-B1A costs $5,800.
Going by the leaked imagery and pricing info, the G-Shock MR-G Frogman BF1000RG should be pretty similar to the existing MRG-BF1000 models in terms of overall features and functionality. If that’s indeed the case, it would likely come equipped with the Frogman line's signature capabilities: ISO 200 meter water resistance, a dedicated dive mode with dive time measurement up to two hours, surface interval tracking up to 24 hours, tide graphs for more than 3,000 locations around the world, and the ability to record and store up to 30 log records. Additionally, we can also look forward to features like Tough Solar power, Multi-Band 6 automatic radio time adjustment, and Bluetooth connectivity. That said, nothing is set in stone just yet. There’s also no word from Casio on the launch date or international availability. We’ll keep an eye out and let you know if new info emerges.
