The new Casio G-Shock GA-V01 watch is on the way to the UK. The company teased the model earlier this year, and it launched in February in China. It has an unusual design, with Casio describing it as a ‘big case’ watch, with the integrated bezel and band acting as a bumper for enhanced toughness.
The GA-V01 has an LCD screen which sits behind oversized hour and minute hands. These are attached using magnets, known as Shock Release Hand technology, for improved shock absorption. The watch can display world time for your choice of 48 cities, as well as the date and weekday. Other features include a dual LED backlight, a countdown timer with a 24-hour range, a 1/100th second stopwatch and five alarms.
An indicator hand within the LCD shows which watch mode you are in, such as World Time Mode and Stopwatch Mode. Plus, the watch offers 200m water resistance and is accurate to within 15 seconds each month. Casio estimates that the watch will run for 10 years, thanks in part to a high-capacity battery.
There are four variants listed as “Coming Soon” on the G-Shock UK site: the GA-V01-1AER (matte black), the GA-V01-2AER (blue-purple), the GA-V01A-8AER (metallic silver) and the GA-V01-9AER (neon yellow). They will retail in this market for £119. Unfortunately, Casio has yet to announce the release date for the GA-V01 in the UK. It is also unclear whether or when it could launch in other markets like the US or the EU.
