For a while now it has been rumored that the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S version of Red Dead Redemption 2 will be released this year. While there has never been a time frame attached to these rumors, the latest leak brings some semblance of a release window. But Rockstar still hasn’t confirmed or shared anything so this information should be taken with a grain of salt.
The post from TREVOR4REAL from August 5 seems to have gone under the radar but it cites “a reliable source” and claims that the next-gen version of Red Dead Redemption 2 is planned for this month, August. This would mean a dedicated PS5 and Xbox Series X/S optimized version of the game will be released in the coming weeks. Red Dead Redemption 2 launched back in 2018 for the Xbox One and PS4 but was never updated for the PS5 and Xbox Series consoles. The game still runs on the newer hardware but it could run better with the next-gen update.
Not only that, the leaker also claims that the Nintendo Switch 2 version of Red Dead Redemption 2, which has also been talked about for quite a while, will be unveiled this month as well. Ever since the initial game lineup for the Switch 2 was unveiled, Red Dead Redemption 2 was expected to be part of the lineup. Since then, there have been a lot of leaks pointing at the same and even the voice actor for one of the main characters in the game hinted at it during a livestream.
That being said, no official information has been shared about a next-gen port or a Switch 2 version of Red Dead Redemption 2. Still, even if the reveal does not happen in August, it will most likely happen within the year.
