Lenovo is introducing a refreshed ThinkPad E14 Gen 5 along with a new 16-inch ThinkPad E16 Gen 1 at MWC 2023. The new ThinkPad E Series now offer Intel 13th gen and AMD Ryzen 7030 options along with new 16:10 displays, an improved keyboard, a larger touchpad, and up to a 57 WHr battery.

Lenovo is targeting small and medium business at MWC 2023 with the new ThinkPad E14 Gen 5 and, for the first time, the ThinkPad E16 Gen 1. The new ThinkPad E Series can be configured with the latest Intel 13th gen or AMD Ryzen 7030 processors.

The Ryzen 7030 moniker means that the APU belongs to the Zen 3 Cezanne generation. While Lenovo hasn't disclosed the exact CPU SKUs, the choice of a Zen 3 APU is not exactly surprising considering that a good number of Intel 13th gen processors are just rehashed Alder Lake parts with slightly improved caches and clocks.

The Intel variants of the ThinkPad E14 Gen 5 and the ThinkPad E16 Gen 1 can also be optionally configured with an Nvidia GeForce MX550 dGPU. Those opting for Ryzen SKUs will have to make do with integrated Radeon graphics, but this shouldn't be much of a concern since the Radeon 680M is already quite faster than a GeForce MX450.

Similar to the ThinkPad E14 G3, the newer ThinkPad E Series offers 8 GB DDR4 memory on board and can support expansion up to an additional 40 GB DDR4 memory. Up to 2x 1 TB NVMe SSDs can be fitted as well.

The ThinkPad E Series transitions to 16:10 displays with the E14 Gen 5 and E16 Gen 1 with a 90% screen-to-body ratio. The E14 Gen 5 features a 14-inch 16:10 WUXGA 300 nits IPS panel that is available in both touch and non-touch variants. Lenovo is offering a WUXGA+ option as well.

The ThinkPad E16 Gen 1 also offers WUXGA 1920 x 1200 300 nits IPS touch/non-touch panels. Buyers can also opt for WQXGA 2560 x 1600 400 nits IPS non-touch panel.

Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 6E with Bluetooth 5.1. A Thunderbolt 4 port is not indicated, but there are a couple of USB Type-C and a couple of USB Type-A ports along with HDMI 2.0b-out, and Ethernet.

Lenovo has fitted the new ThinkPad E Series with new keyboards and a larger 115 mm touchpad. Both the E Series ThinkPads come with FHD webcams. They can also be configured with 47 WHr or 57 WHr batteries.

The ThinkPad E14 Gen 5 and the ThinkPad E16 Gen 1 will be available in Thunder Black and Arctic Grey variants from June 2023 at prices starting from €770 and €780, respectively.
