Lenovo Legion Y700 refresh announced with new Super Control Edition display before next-generation release
Lenovo has only recently released the Legion Tab globally, the price of which it subsequently dropped by 10% in Germany and the UK for early orders. While the Legion Tab arrived last month, its origins lie in the Legion Y700 (2023) that debuted last summer. As such, it should come as no surprise to learn that Lenovo is planning a refresh of sorts, albeit not with a more powerful chipset or expected upgrades.
Instead, it has revealed a new edition that it promises will deliver 'a new gaming experience' through a matte display finish. Specifically, Lenovo will sell the tablet as the 'Legion Y700 Super Control Edition', which retains a 2,560 x 1,600-pixel resolution and a 343 PPI with a 16:10 aspect ratio. Presumably, the Legion Y700 Super Control Edition will continue to span 8.8-inches across too while delivering a 144 Hz refresh rate. However, it remains to be seen if the matte coating affects its peak brightness, which tops out at 500 nits.
Supposedly, the Legion Y700 Super Control Edition reduces touch friction by 50% compared to the current Legion Y700 (2023), plus the Legion Tab by extension. Moreover, the 'micro-nano etching AG process' should minimise reflections aided by what Lenovo describes as the 'industry's first nano-microcrystalline optical path'. Meanwhile, Lenovo has also confirmed that the next Legion Y700 'will not be released for at least the next two months'. Thus, it seems that the company could wait until the 2023 edition's first anniversary before delivering a third-generation tablet with more substantial hardware upgrades.
