At this year's CES, Lenovo presented its new Legion 5i 16 G9 and we have already had the chance to test the new mid-range gaming laptop. Its new Core i7-14650HX in combination with the RTX 4060 Laptop power a fast 240-Hz QHD panel. Of course, AI functions are also on board in the year 2024—but to no effect.

The Lenovo Legion 5i has been updated for 2024 and this 9th generation 16-inch gaming laptop boasts 14th Gen Intel® Core™ processor performance, plus Nvidia RTX 4000 series visuals. While the Lenovo Legion 5i isn't the most portable new gamer notebook, it's certainly one of the most powerful. If you're after a beefy laptop with strong specs for a respectable price, this is an option well worth considering. That 16-inch IPS display boasts a crisp QHD resolution, with Dolby Vision HDR support. You've also got up to 240Hz maximum refresh with, of course, full VRR support - and the Lenovo Legion 5i 2024 pumps out glorious audio from the stereo speaker setup.

Not seen for a few years the NEW 2024 Lenovo Legion 5i is back and showing GREAT potential in 2024. This year the Lenovo Legion Pro 5i and 5i have differing chassis and ports to truly set them apart in the line-up and help consumers pick the right laptop for their needs.

Guys, it’s hard to find any major cons regarding the Lenovo Legion 5i (16″, Gen 9). Alright, we’re expecting a metal base, but the plastic one here is solid which is very important. Aside from that, the overall performance is great thanks to the capable cooling system. The Core i5-13450HX (which is the default CPU option) can maintain a 4.00GHz P-core clock in short loads and 3.72 GHz / 3.08 GHz P and E-core frequency in longer max CPU stress. Not only that but the optional GeForce RTX 4060 (Laptop) can sustain a stable 2715MHz core clock. That’s the highest GPU frequency we’ve seen from an RTX 4060! That’s possible because of the potent thermal solution with large fans, many heat pipes, and big metal plates.

Among its category, Lenovo Legion 5 is the player who came to the basketball court in a business suit. But interestingly, this did not affect its performance in any way. It demonstrates competitive performance for its configuration, has good manipulators, all the necessary ports, a good display, allows the owner to upgrade the memory, and so on. However, since this is not a flagship, there is no support for Wi-Fi 7, faster-than-gigabit Ethernet, or convenient authentication methods. But such moments will not be important for everyone. Still, if your goal is to buy a gaming laptop with a neutral design and without paying extra for all the colors of the rainbow on all sides of the case, the Legion 5 will be a great candidate for such a place.

This range for display formats was and is a rarity. It is larger than the general standard of 15 inches, but not yet in the range of large workstations. One usually has higher screen resolutions available, but portability suffers from that.
