Lenovo Chromebox Micro: Smartphone sized mini-PC debuts with dual 4K monitor support
The Chromebox Micro is Lenovo's latest attempt at a mini-PC, and one that is significantly smaller than the IdeaCentre Mini that it introduced at CES 2023. According to the company's press release, the Chromebox Micro is about the same height and width as the Galaxy S23 Ultra (curr. US$1,309 on Amazon) at 162 x 79 mm. However, the former is significantly thicker than the latter, with a 20 mm case depth to account for ports like an Ethernet connection.
Still, the Chromebox Micro is large enough to accommodate an Intel Celeron N4500 processor, which combines two processor cores with a UHD Graphics (Jasper Lake 16 EU) iGPU across a 6 W TDP. As such, the mini-PC can power two 4K monitors simultaneously, for which it has HDMI and USB Type-C ports. Additionally, Lenovo has included a pair of USB Type-A ports for connecting peripherals like a mouse and keyboard.
For reference, Lenovo pre-installs ChromeOS Kiosk, underlining the company's intentions for the Chromebox Micro to be used as digital signage or something similar. Accordingly, Lenovo has partnered with Instorescreen to create 15.6-inch and 21.5-inch inFLEX touchscreen displays behind which the Chromebox Micro can be installed. Lenovo hopes to begin selling the Chromebox Micro in Q1 2024 for approximately US$219.
