The Intel Arc B580 is scheduled to go on sale starting December 13. When the card officially lands, gamers can expect a good budget GPU with improved ray tracing performance over the Arc A770 as shown by a gaming test that has appeared on YouTube.

We have seen a lot of synthetic benchmarks for the Intel Arc B580 over the past few days. From the 3DMark Time Spy results to the Geekbench OpenCL/Vulkan tests. Thanks to the German YouTube channel “RawiioliExtras” we now have our first deep look into the gaming performance of the Intel Arc B580. While the video is over 3 hours long and is packed with interesting details, our main concern is the performance of the Arc B580 vs the Arc A770 in games and the 3DMark Steel Nomad benchmark.

Intel Arc B580 vs Arc A770 in 3DMark Steel Nomad

Looking at the results of the 3DMark Time Steel Nomad benchmark, Intel was wise to only compare the Arc B580 to its direct predecessor, the Arc A580, and competitors and not the Arc A770. The reason for this is simple: The Arc B580 performs similar to the Arc A770 in the test as both cards produced 29.97 and 29.02 FPS in the graphics test, respectively.

Fortunately, the results of the gaming tests are more interesting.

Arc B580 vs Arc A770 in Shadow of the Tomb Raider

Starting with the Shadow of the Tomb Raider, the Arc A770 is seen playing the title between 60-85 FPS at FHD with the highest graphics, including ray tracing, and “Ultra-Quality” Intel XeSS. The Intel Arc B580 seems to perform noticeably better with the GPU managing to run the game between 70-100 FPS. This appears to confirm that the Arc B580 has indeed seen a ray tracing performance boost.

Sadly, Intel still has some Arc B580 kinks to iron out, as the GPU couldn't quite run Quake 2 RTX with Vulkan. The Arc A770, on the other hand, runs the title just fine. So, the Arc B580 appears to have a driver issue which is quite normal for new GPUs.

All in all, in this rudimentary gaming test, the Intel Arc B580 performs as you’d expect from a current-gen entry-level GPU. What makes us excited, however, is the ray tracing potential of the card and Intel’s driver optimizations. Team Blue has proven that it can squeeze a lot of performance out of its boards with post-launch driver updates. So, it will be interesting to see what Intel can do with the Arc B580.
