Valerion is adding another device to its projector lineup. The StreamMaster Plus 2 is a 4K projector that uses three individual lasers, which is not exactly groundbreaking but is supposed to improve color reproduction. Therefore, Valerion says that the new projector covers 110% of the Rec.2020 color space and offers a brightness of up to 2,000 lumens. These are ISO lumens and there is no official specification for ANSI lumens. These different and incomparable brightness specs are a rather contentious topic among projector manufacturers.
Anyhow, the new Valerion projector sports a contrast ratio of 10,000:1 and 4K resolution. However, the StreamMaster Plus 2 is not a native 4K projector but relies on pixel shifting instead. The company asserts that the projector can also be used for gaming. Its input lag at Full HD and 240Hz stands at 4ms, while 4K60 inputs result in 15ms of lag. ALLM is supported, and there are some additional features that are often found in gaming monitors such as the selective brightness adjustment of dark images.
The projection ratio is fixed at 1.2:1, but automatic keystone correction and automatic focus are onboard and obstructions such as picture frames can be automatically detected. The 4K projector needs at least 40 inches of projection surface and can produce an image diagonal of up to 300 inches. In terms of connectivity, there are several HDMI ports, an optical audio input and Ethernet port. WiFi is integrated as well. The Valerion projector runs on Google TV, which provides access to a wide range of apps and can make an external media player obsolete. The laser projector is now available for a sticker price of $1,999.
