Find N5 Flip: Oppo patents new clamshell foldable design to rival Samsung Galaxy Z Flip and Motorola Razr convergence

The Oppo Find N5 has been around for a while now. To recap, Oppo presented its ultra-thin foldable in late February as the first of its kind with a Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset. Typically, the company would have unveiled a corresponding clamshell foldable by now too, as was the case with the Find N2 Flip and Find N3 Flip.

A recent World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) patent indicates that Oppo is still considering the clamshell foldable market after an 18-month absence. Please note that patent approval does not mean that a company ever intends to release such a device. With that being said, it reveals where Oppo's design team is headed, as was the case earlier this with Samsung Display's Flex Gaming prototype.

To that extent, Oppo has expanded the size of its outer display while retaining its vertical orientation. Countering the move by competitors like Samsung and Xiaomi to the design forged by Motorola with the Razr Ultra 2025 (curr. $1,299 on Amazon) and its predecessors, Oppo has also included three rear-facing cameras arranged in a conventional vertically-aligned camera housing.
